How to Make a Blunt Burn Slow for Longer Smokes — Negus Wraps
Now matter how you roll up, most of the advice here can apply to when you smoke a joint, blunt, or spliff. If you want a slow burn, then every piece involved matters, from your herb to your paper, to your grinder.
Let’s start with the herb. Cure time, which is just a fancy word for how the weed is dried, has an effect on the burn time of your bud. The more over cured, or the more dry, then the faster it will burn. But if cured correctly, there should be just enough moisture to slow down the fire. So you want to make sure your budtender or dispensary is a reliable source with a good reputation so you don’t end up with trash in your blunt for your smoke session.
You can even have a talk with the your dealer about what you want exactly. It would help you to do a little research because a lot of sales-men will tell you what they think you want to hear. And many don’t really know the difference between one cannabis strain from another, especially once it’s exchanged hands multiple times from farm all the way down to seller.
Get a Metal Grinder
Throw away that plastic grinder. They’re teeth are soft and can’t do the best job at grinding weed evenly. A nice metal tooth grinder will break down your weed into more even chunks for a slow burn. A few things effect fire’s burn rate. Those factors are the size, surface area, and the amount of oxygen. So weed chunks of different sizes will burn at different rates, causing your joint to burn uneven. On the other hand, if the cannabis is ground down too fine, then your blunt will be too compact and there won’t be room for oxygen to get through to help the joint burn at all.
A lot of people love the pocket sized 50 mm 2 inch grinders for smoking on the go. But something closer to 3 inches in diameter is great too because it can double as storage for grounded weed, for when you come back for round two later in the day. The lesson for the day is properly grind your weed, fine and even, for a smooth smoke.
Quality Rolling Paper
Rolling papers come in many shapes and sizes. Some rolling papers last forever but may only do so because they’re treated with extra additive chemicals for the long burn effect that may cause you respiratory issues in the long run if smoked frequently. Other brands are all natural and nearly vegan. These papers often come from rice, hemp, flax, and wood pulp. Some brands are thick, some are thin, which often means they burn slower but may be more challenging to grip and roll.
Different rolling paper brands burn uneven, have strong after tastes, are tasteless, or even flavored. Sometimes they have glue that never sticks when you lick or have to be re-lit often. So you’ve got to know what you’re getting into with the brand you choose. Some reliable rolling paper brands to roll a joint are Negus, Raw, or OCB.
Roll It Tight
Ironically, if you roll too tight and air can’t get through, it’ll be like sucking on your thumb. But if you roll it too loose, a lot more air comes through, and that makes the fire react to the incoming oxygen at a quicker rate, for a quicker burn out. So you want a tight, but joint with an even air channel so you can smoke with a smooth pull.
Wax On / Wax Off
You can even add marijuana-wax so that there’s more material to burn. The fire has more work to do, which will not only slow the rate of the burn but also add to your cannabinoid intake. You can wax the outside with shatter or sap. Or on the inside you can mix in budders or crumble. Some people even use honey as a sweet substitute. They either put a strip of honey on the inside that they spread with a butter knife. Or they lay the outside of their blunt in a real thin layer of honey to then sprinkle or roll around in leftover kief. Just don’t douse it, or get honey all over the tips of your fingers.
You can also use hash oil, which also comes with an extra high. But toke that at your own risk. You may float off to heights you weren’t looking for.
Don’t Suck So Hard
Smoke with soft pulls, slow and steady. Take your time. The harder you suck, the more oxygen you pull into the blunt, which just fuels the fire with oxygen so that it burns up your blunt before you’ve had enough.
